The Prophet PBUH said;
“Rajab is the month of Allah, Sha’ban is my month and Ramadan is the month of my
Ummah.”
[Suyuti]
In this month we should make extra effort to gain the closeness of Prophet Muhammad
PBUH. We can do this in many different ways. For example, learning about the life of the Prophet PBUH (Seerah), learning the Prophetic Du’as, adopting simple Sunnahs of how the Prophet PBUH ate, slept, helped build Masjid Nabwi and much more!
Allahumma salli ʿala Sayyidina Muḥammad
O Allah, send prayers upon Our Master Muhammad
Another great blessing of this month is 15th Sha’ban – Laylat al-Bara’ah, Laylat an-Nisf min Sha’ban, and Shab-e-Barat.
This is a night of great blessings where Allah SWT pours His mercy and forgiveness upon earth from the time of Maghrib (sunset prayer) to Fajr (Dawn Prayer).
The virtues of this blessed night is mentioned in detail in the Hadith:
The Prophet PBUH said, “Allah (SWT) gazes at His creation on the fifteenth night of Sha’ban and then forgives all His slaves except for two types of people: those who attribute partners to Allah and those who have rancour for their fellow Muslims.” [Ahmad]
The Prophet PBUH also said to Sayyidah Aishah RA, “Allah (SWT) descends on the night of the middle of Sha’ban to the lowest heaven, and He forgives more than the numbers of hairs on the sheep of Banu Kalb (an Arab tribe renowned for their great flocks of sheep).” [Ibn Majah and others]
The Prophet PBUH said that on this night, from sunset until dawn, Allah asks His servants, “Is there anyone seeking forgiveness from Me so that I may forgive him? Is there anyone seeking provision from Me so I may provide for him? Is there anyone suffering so I may relieve his suffering?” [Ibn Majah]
