Virtues of Rajab

Article by

Alhamdulillah, the Islamic month of Rajab is upon us!

اَللّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِى رَجَبَ وَ شَعْبَانَ وَ بَلِّغْنَا رَمَضَان

Allahumma barik lana fi Rajaba wa Sha’ban, wa ballighna Ramadan

“O Allah! Make the months of Rajab and Sha’ban a blessing for us and let us reach the holy month of Ramadan.”

Indeed, we anticipate the month of Ramadan even more when we reach Rajab. It is a time to prepare ourselves physically and spiritually. Rajab is a month of great virtues. The Prophet PBUH said,‘Rajab is the month of Allah, Sha‘ban is my month and Ramadan is the month of my Ummah’. [Suyuti]

What a great virtue, that Rajab is the month of Allah SWT. Indeed, we should pay extra attention in this month by connecting to Allah SWT. This can come in many forms, from reciting the Kalima repeatedly, spending more time in the Mosque and making up for our missed prayers.

‘Seek much forgiveness from Allah in Rajab because in every hour (of the month) Allah frees people from the Fire’. [Dailami]

It is also the month in which we should seek forgiveness of our sins – Rajab is known as the month of Tawbah (repentance) and Istighfar (forgiveness). Allah SWT’s mercy is pouring out to us and we should take time to benefit from its blessings. Take time to sit and reflect upon your sins and ask Allah SWT with a sincere heart for forgiveness. Indeed He is the Most Forgiving Lord!

Another great virtue of Rajab, is the Isra’ Wal Mi’raj (the miraculous night journey). On this night, the Prophet PBUH was transported from Makkah to the Heavens, with a great meeting with Allah SWT! It is the time in which our prayers were reduced from fifty prayers to five prayers – indeed this is Allah SWT mercy upon His creation.

Alhamdulillah, for the virtues of Rajab! May Allah SWT allow us to take from its benefits and help us prepare for the month of the Ummah – Ramadan!

Start the month of Rajab by donating your Sadaqah Jariyah to the Islamic Centre of Britiain.

Beyond Lip Service: Championing Muslim Inclusion in the Workplace

The recent islamophobic riots and racist thuggery that gripped the UK shed a spotlight on the misconceptions and prejudices that still exist for minority communities and Muslims. This was a good opportunity for employers to show solidarity with employees who felt rightfully shaken by the violent unrest and emphasise their commitment to tolerance and multicultural openness.
